While SC1 set the standard for rts, SC2 is really no more than a graphical revamp and minor tweaks to the original.

The races are the same, most of the units are the same, the resource collection system is the same, you create buildings and units the same way, upgrades are obtained in the same way, etc.

Compare this to the evolution from Warcraft 2 to Warcraft 3, where you got two new races, a new hero system, items, creeps, etc. and Starcraft 2 looks hopelessly stuck in the past.

I agree with bill SO MUCH!

Screw the revolution… I didn’t wait 12 years for starcraft 2 so that it can be a revolution
Starcraft IS a revolution and SC2 is a Wholesome continuation of said revolution..

and as soon as they change Starcraft the revolution ends…

And as we all know… The revolution ends when blizzard says it does!!

I can’t wait to get my hand’s on this, I just don’t like the LANlessness of it.. but what can we do?

The thing is, a revolution would mean a drastic change from Starcraft; and lets be honest, the people excited about SC2 are the people who loved SC1. Do we REALLY want a revolution? Take a look at some previous revolutions in the way games are made and played, and you may begin to appreciate that SC2 is more of an evolution. Personally, it’s what I was hoping for and I am thrilled that it seems to be the case.

Hmmm. Good points, and I haven’t played the game so I’ll defer to your analysis. I would like to think that the game is revolutionary in at least some way, though. Is there any hope? Ahhh wellll, I’ll still love it

Nice article! I’ve played the beta and I thought it was more of a ‘revolution’ than you did. But I can’t help but agree with alot of your sentiments (particularly that at times you feel like it’s Starcraft 1). Thanks & look forward to next article!
